Follows two hints that will help you the streaming URL of a radio station:

First of all, we need to access the homepage of the desired radio station and then, we will face one of the following situations: the radio includes a link which points directly to the streaming or includes a link which will open a new window with the player of the radio station. These are the two situations that will be explained right below. It will be assumed the Firefox browser utilization.

.: Verifying the source-code of the page

Some radio stations include in its main page a link which points directly to a streaming.

In the radio station website you will certainly see a kind of link like: “Live”, “Listen live” etc. If it´s possible to see where this link points to and if the link points directly to a streaming file (files with extension asx, wax, wmv, mp3, m3u, pls, mov, ram, rm, or yet the URLs started by mms:) so, your problem is solved, and this URL is the one you need.

In case the URL points out to another page (the the player of the radio, for example), you will have to follow the link. In the radio´s player, you shall click with the right button in an empty area of the window and next, select the option Source Code.

In the source code we need to look for the URL which points to one of the the type of files previously shown (asx, m3u, pls, rm, ...). Generally this URL is included in one of the <embed> type tag. If this tag exists, the URL for the streaming will be right below it in a tag named src or filename.

.: Verifying the page properties

Generally this option is faster than the one presented previously and works with a great part of the radio stations. On the window of the radio player, click with the right button in an empty area of the window, and then select the option Properties. Go to the tab Media and you will see a list with two columns: Address and Type. In the column Type, search for the embed items, verifying if the URL that will appear in the column Address indicates the streaming address.

Please note that sometimes the link shown is a relative link. Which means, it may appear in a simple way like this: "live.pls", "livefm" or "radio.asx", for example. If that´s the case, you shall add this link to the URL of the player page (note that the bar "/" indicates the root – then, normally, the link will be added to the website URL.

.: Testing the URL

The best option to check if you have the correct URL is type it in the browser. When accessing the URL by the browser, note that one of the 3 applications always have to be automatically opened: Quicktime, iTunes or RealPlayer.

If one of those 3 applications is automatically opened by the browser, then you have a URL that really indicates a media file and this is the URL that should be typed in the widget.
